13 Days 12 Nights in Styria - Salzkammergut - Salzburg

Day 1 | Arrival Graz Thalerhof

Welcome to Styria Austria!


We will pick you up at the airport and move to our accommodation. Depending on arrival time we will have a welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant. 

Day 2 | West Styria

Today we are going west toward Baernbach to see the unique chapel of Hundertwasser rebuild and designed after the ideas of the famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser , nestled in a beautiful park which invites us to sit down and inhale this truly interesting place.  Nearby is another “not being missed” place . The Glass Museum Baernbach explore and learn about the art of glassblowing and more.


Lunch at a “Coffee house”.


Just a couple of minutes away is Piber. See where the Lippizaner are breed and born it's a very peaceful place to walk around and watch the future stars of “The Spanish Hofreitschule”. 


We, of course will always be able to stop along the way on your request as you will spot so many “weird “ but interesting cultural things unique to Styria.

Dinnner at a Landgasthaus 

Day 3 | West Styria

See the world largest Klapotetz ( a Klapotetz is a special windmill made in a specific way out of 7 different woods. The distinctive noise the different woods are making is meant to chase away the birds from the grapes in the wineries around.) 


As we have a hike up the Daemmerkogel  we reach a breathtaking lookout. Rolling hills and wineries as far as you can see will make you sit down and just enjoy this beautiful landscape. We will have lunch in the comforting shade of the lush forest on our walk down the hill. It's an easy 90-minute walk suitable for all levels.

Day 4 | South Styria

Soutern Styria presents itself multifaced. Discover the breathtaking landscape actively on an old timer tractor we cruise   along trough fields of pumpkin and grapes and fruits. A fun way to inhale the nature and culture around us. We take a little break at a pumpkin oil mill. Styrian pumpkinseed oil is a trademark, and the origin black oil is just grown and produced in Styria. Give it a try you might get addicted to it as we are.

An interesting day comes to an end we will have dinner once more at an Landgasthof. 

Day 5 | West Styria Riegersburg

Before we clamp up the castle (elevator available) we swing by a very famous chocolatery Zotter to watch and try the creation of handmade chocolate.


Proud and mighty Riegersburg castle is situated on a 432 m high volcano rock which it overlooks the southeastern Styrian hill country (construction started around 1138 bc).


In all the centuries of it existence it never could be conquered. Nodaway the climb up to the hill is much easier and always an experience.

Day 6 | Upper Styria Salzkammergut

Today we make our way northwest toward the mountains, A scenic drive will bring us to Schladming  a former mining village. Today it is the host of international skiing completion.


Nestled in the fascinating mountains between the Schladminger Tauern and our highest Styrian Mountain Dachstein, Schladming is a popular holiday destination in summer and winter.


We have a stop for lunch and the next couple of hours you get the opportunity to stroll through the cozy village of Schladming  with its small shops and coffeehouses you even might find a Dirndl or Lederhose for yourself.


Just another short drive through the mountains will lead us to our accommodation for the next couple of days. Bad Ischl.

Day 7 | Bad Ischl

Bad Ischl the imperial town in the center of the Salzkammergut region  

Culture capital town of 2024 and not surprisingly UNESCO world heritage site. The symbiosis of architecture culture and tradition reflects the history and diversity of this village.

  

The summer residence for decades of our last emperor Franz Josph his traces can be seen everywhere you look.


The city on the river Traun is also considered as the birthplace of Sommerfrische ,A summer holiday that takes you out of the cities to relax in the cooler climate of the mountains during the hot summer days.


Hotels coffeehouses promenade s where build to be the new playground for Austrian High society and onlookers from all over Europe This holiday makers build fantastic villas for themself, and it is these buildings that dominate the face and vibe of this town to this day. 

Day 8 | Bad Ischl

So much to do and to see still everything walkable  Kaiservilla a must in Bad Ischl the world famous Konditorei Zauner the Kurpark just to name few. We take the day as it comes and decide on the go.

Day 9 | Salzburg

A short drive along lakes and mountains will take us to Mozart's Birth town Salzburg.


Salzburg is so much more than the sound of music The Hohe Salzburg Getreidegasse Mirabell palace ect  we certainly won't get bored during this day in Salzburg.


For sure, a must is to take the gondola up Hohen Salzburg  its an unbelievable view overlooking the city of Salzburg and the mountains around as we walk down from the castle we will experience and see lots of history and clean nature.

As we are walking through the city we stop as we are pleased just sit down and just get stunned.


We drive back to Bad Ischl via Fuschlsee where we stop and have dinner  

Must likely we won't like to leave the surrounding is just too beautiful 

Day 10 | Hallstatt

Time to leave the emperors favorite summer residence and move on to our next destination Hallstatt.


Human activity in the magnificent natural landscape began in prehistorical times with the salt deposits exploited as early as the 2nd millennium bc  the oldest salt mine worldwide is the place of our desire go up by gondola and just get speechless not just about the mine but about what you are going to see around y


Another UNESCO world heritage side to experience   after lunch in the small village we will get to know some weird facts about this place be ready to be surprised but mostly just enjoy and inhale this extraordinary place  

Drive to Graz (approximately 2 hours) and dinner at downtown Graz

Day 11 | Graz

Welcome to the capital city of Styria


The second largest city of Austria after Vienna is home to 330000 residences  

Again, an UNESCO world heritage site Were history. modern design and culinary delight come together.


As we stay at a traditional hotel in Downtown everything is easily walkable. 

While we walk toward Hauptplatz the main Square of Graz we will pass baroque buildings with pleasant contrast to modern buildings. Our aim is Schlossberg  a dramatic rock in the middle of the city. A funicular takes us up the dramatic bluff. The view from our beloved Schlossberg will unfold an incredible view over the most well-preserved old town of Europe . Lunch at a Standl in downtown. 

The afternoon is reserved for the largest ancient armoury worldwide.

More than 32000 objects are shown from the 15th to the 18th century, silent witnesses of cruel battles.


Dinner in downtown Graz 

Day 12 | Graz

This morning it is your choice to stroll through the city on your own or join us at the largest farmers market of Graz Kaiserjosefplatz. Graz has the most farmers market all over Austria another indication why Graz is called “city of delight” we just love to eat our own produced food.


Well, you can't visit Graz without seeing castle Eggenberg one of the most significant baroque palace complexes in Styria; 

The castle isn't just a gorgeous relic of the 17th century baroque architecture, it's also a UNESO world heritage site.


You will be blown away by the architecture and the well-considered building showing the high education of the princely family of Eggenberg  The park is just stunning and invites us once more to sit down and dream a little.  

As it is our last evening, we will take you to a surprise  dinner. 

The entire time you will be of course accompanied by insides and stories of our country.

Day 13 | Departure

We will bring you to the airport for farewell
